News: MediaTek Helio X30 a 10nm 2.6 GHz deca-core processor for gamers

The Helio X30 a 10nm deca-core chip clocked at 2.6GHz has a PowerVR 7XTP-MT4 as its GPU was delayed and after months of its launch, first phone that house Helio X30 is Meizu Pro 7.

This chipset is very powerful and support Imagiq’s Dual Camera Zoom offers 2x optical zoom in a super slim form factor on other hand Snapdragon 400 and 600 series are now the go-to chips for entry level and mid-range phones.

The cumulatively gross margin dropped to as low as 35% from almost 50%. However, the chip maker still remains number 2 in the list of top IC suppliers this year.

A post made via the chip maker’s official Weibo account highlights one major feature of the 10nm SoC which is gaming. According to Mediatek, the Helio X30 supports LPDDR4X RAM.

Market sources say Mediatek is planning some new chips built using TSMC’s 12nm process technology. The 12nm chips are expected to bring Mediatek a highly competitive performance/cost advantage.

LPDDR4X in Helio X30 allows the use of memories with higher clockspeeds but with better power efficiency. The new memory standard has a 50% voltage reduction (1.1V to 0.55V) allowing data to be sent and received at improved speeds but without draining much power.

The Helio X30 also supports UFS 2.0 and UFS 2.1. Phones with any of these storage types have faster read and write speeds compared to eMMC. This new chip might help company to regain lost customers such as OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi.
