Prime OS for Desktop
Prime OS for Desktop

The best thing about Android OS is that it is not limited to handheld smartphones. It is platform independent, hence one can use it on PC, desktops, laptops. We need an emulator to bring the Android experience to desktops. We know of the popular emulator Bluestacks which serves the purpose for running Android OS on PC. However, there is a new Android 7.1.2 Nougat based named PrimeOS. This reminds me a famous Android x86 flavor called RemixOS from china that shutdown last year for consumers. In this post, we will guide you how to Install PrimeOS Android-x86 on any Laptop or PC.

PrimeOS targets to provide Android OS on older PCs. It is based on the Android X86 Project. This open-source project aims to port Google’s Android OS from Smartphones over to the desktops and PCs.  PrimeOS comes from this and is in its Beta stage. It is the brainchild of XDA member TeamPrimeOS. As the name and source suggest, PrimeOS can only run on PC/desktops with X86 architecture.

We have provided the iso image of the PrimeOS as the PrimeOS installer is currently in the development phase. Below you can find the link for the same. We have also listed out the working features and bugs the current version of PrimeOS comes with.

Working features of PrimeOS Installer

Here is the list of features of the all-new emulator that brings Android OS experience to the PC.

  • Brings desktop-experience with start menu, taskbar etc.
  • Comes with multi-window support with options to maximize, minimize, close, resize the window.
  • Option to disable multi-window for any app in case you need.
  • Comprises the basic keyboard shortcuts like Alt + Tab, Alt + F4, Win + D etc.
  • Close to AOSP experience with only necessary desktop features.
  • Its taskbar has the ability to pin apps, show notification and system icons.
  • There is the Decapro key mapping tool to play games with keyboard and mouse (Press F12).
  • PrimeOS pre-maps some popular games like PUBG, Subway surf etc.
  • It has GPU tools to fake GPU info for any game.

Bugs and Glitches in the PrimeOS

Though it brings useful features, it also brings a few bugs such as,

  • Bluetooth may not work on a few devices
  • The user may experience hardware-specific bugs on the trackpad, sound, wifi etc.

However, we can expect the developers will patch these bugs in the upcoming version and this is just the first version of the emulator.
